Dweeber.com Help and FAQ
General Dweeber.com Questions
Is there a fee for using Dweeber?
No fees on Dweeber! Every feature and function you currently see on the site is FREE.
About the site itself
What does the 'What’s Happening' area do?
This area functions as a newsfeed, and shows you what all the Dweebs in your network are up to. Unlike other sites, ‘What’s Happening’only shows you important stuff: when someone enters a new web site or votes on a site, when someone starts working on a new subject, when one of your friends has an urgent question, when a new study session has been launched, etc. That way you’ll know everything in ‘What’s Happening’ is important to you in some way.
What is the SMART profile?
This is what sets Dweeber apart from any other social network. The acronym S.M.A.R.T. stands for Successes, Mind Patterns, Attractions and Interests, Resources, and Thinking Talents. These are five different ways to look at how you’re uniquely smart, and what brings out your best—in school, in social life, in sports, in anything. By completing your SMART profile you’ll learn some new things about yourself that can help you with anything you do, and by knowing these things about your friends, you can work better together while online and get your work done even faster.

The SMART profile sections don’t take long to complete-just click on any of the letters in any order and the activity will open in your Visualizer (the center area that normally shows your view of friends — My Dweebs and Dweeb Nation). Then, to see your friends’ SMART profiles, you can view their badge in “My Dweebs” or “Dweeb Nation”, to see how they think and learn best (their Mind Pattern). With teams that you create in My Dweebs, you can also compare everyone’s SMART profiles at once by clicking the ‘Compare’ button.
What do I do with My sites/Top sites function?
This area is reserved for you to customize your own library of your favorite sites that help you learn and study (and may help your friends learn and study as well), and a place for you to vote on the best web sites in the whole Dweeber network. Unlike Google/Yahoo web searches, which give you the top sites based on what companies have spent the most money advertising, the Dweeber database list the sites that users like you have rated the highest. You can see the ranking based on # of votes (“Brainer” for the sites that are good for learning, “No Brainer” for the ones that aren’t) as well as the Best Features of those particular sites—some people like sites with photos, images, and video; others like sounds and podcasts; still others like ones with games and hands-on activities). This way you don’t waste your time looking at sites that don’t fit with the way you like to learn—you’ll know in advance which are the best for you.

What can I do in the Study Groups/Study Session area?
The study sessions are a group chat area where you can work on any subject, topic, or area of interest with your friends. You can invite up to 8 friends to a study session, and you can participate in as many sessions as you want (launch new ones, or join existing ones). They are grouped by subject so you can easily find one that meets your current homework needs (i.e. Science, Math), and you can customize and personalize them (i.e. Anna’s Awesome English!) The Study Sessions have several unique tools that help you get your work done faster and more effectively:

  • Private message: you may want to IM a friend in a study session without the other participants seeing it in the group chat area. With PM you can chat both ways simultaneously.
  • “I have an urgent question”: If you have something you need help with RIGHT NOW, click the “Urgent Question” button. You may need to know the square root of 1067, or what page the bio homework is on. For the next 60 seconds your badge will light up in all your friends’ Visualizers, letting them know you need help. You can send a Thank You (and give Guru points) to whoever hooks you up.
  • Website sharing: anytime you (or someone in your study session) wants to work from a website together, just type or paste the URL into the chat entry field. Then everyone in your study session can see a thumbnail of that web page, and if they click on it the page opens in a new browser window. So you can all look at the same site at once, discuss it using the chat, and add it to your “My sites” area and vote on it if you like it.
  • Whiteboards: by launching a whiteboard, all your friends in a study session can write and draw together on the same canvas; add shapes, text, and images, and save it to your “My Whiteboards” area if it will help you in the future. You’ve got to check this out!
  • Brain state: Similar to the icons you select in your profile, these emoticons go in the group chat area and let your friends know what’s up with you, without you having to type it in.
I am a teacher. Can I use Dweeber to support my students in the classroom?
You can definitely use Dweeber with your students. A teacher and his/her students would need to create their own accounts, and the teacher would invite each of them as friends (we protect users from unwanted communications from anyone who is not an accepted friend). Once this is done you can form a 'study group'-just go to the “My Dweebs” tab on the top, and click “New team” in the upper right corner. The team can be any size, and up to 8 at a time can engage in real-time study sessions using the collaborative whiteboard. The chats will be available to them at anytime in the 'chat history'. The SMART profile section will also be extremely useful for students to understand how they learn best, and how their teachers can support and understand them. The 'Resources' section allows students to share relevant websites that help with assignments for particular subjects.
Your Account
How do I change my email address?
Since your email is also your username at Dweeber as it is with most other social sites these days, you cannot change your email address with the account it’s attached to. We recommend you just create a new account with the new email address.
How do I change my password?
Make sure you are logged in to your home page. Click “profile” in your profile badge in the upper left corner of the page. Near the top of the page, click “Change” next to “Password”. When the new area opens up, enter new password and click “Save”.
How do I change my Profile badge picture?
Make sure you are logged in to your home page. Click “profile” in your profile badge in the upper left corner of the page. Click “Change” under the photo area, then “Browse” to find a photo to upload. You can upload photos from your hard drive or within a network. Picture formats must be .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .gif, or .png.
I'm trying to upload an image, and I am getting an error message... what is wrong?
Make sure the image you are attempting to upload is in one of the formats Dweeber accepts (.jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png).
Make sure the filename is simple and short, with no spaces or funny characters. "Image.jpg" is a good filename "Me at the party! Rocking out~~.jpg" is probably not going to work.
Make sure the file is less than 4MB. We do not allow images over 4MB. If none of these tips help, it's possible that the image is corrupted. We suggest downloading a graphical viewer that can help you fix corrupted pics. Here is our suggestion:
Go to www.download.com
Search for IrfanView and download it.
Once you have downloaded and installed IrfanView, simply run the program, open your .gif, or .jpg image, and resave it as another version (example: in IrfanView, open file named pic01.jpg, and resave it as pic01b.jpg).
Then, simply return to Dweeber and upload your newly resaved image.
I can't create an account.
We recommend deleting your browser's cookies and temporary internet files and then close all your browsers and try signing up again. (Note: Mac users should use Safari or Firefox.)

Make sure you didn’t add any spaces at the end of your email address or verification code.

If you have tried all of the above and you were not able to resolve your issue, send us an email describing how far into the account creation process you were able to complete as well as the error you received.
I forgot my password.
Retrieve your password by going to the ‘Forgot Password’ page and following the instructions. You will need to enter the email address that we have on file for your account. We'll then email your password to that address.
I can't log into my account.
Make sure that you are logging in with the correct email address and password.

Clear your browser's cookies and temporary internet files and then try logging in again.
Mac users should use Safari or Firefox for the best browsing results.
Dweeber may delete profiles if they violate the site's Terms and Conditions. You would have received an email alerting you if this occurred in your case.

The fastest way to resolve the issue is to perform the above steps. If you have gone through the above steps and still cannot log in, you can contact us here.
How do I change my personal information?
Through "Edit Profile" you may change your name, age, grade, and/or add to the other information on your profile.
